Originally from Central and South America.
Hardiness Zone
Best grown as an annual in zones 3–10.
Resistances
Resistant to common bean mosaic virus and rust.
Growing Conditions
Full sun, well-drained soil, pH 6.0–7.0, and moderate moisture.
Direct sow after the last frost when soil reaches 15°C (60°F).
Growing Tips
Sow seeds 1 inch deep, 3–4 inches apart. Provide even moisture and mulch to retain soil moisture. Avoid handling plants when wet to prevent disease.
Uses
Excellent for fresh eating, steaming, sautéing, canning, and freezing.
Companions
Good with carrots, cucumbers, and marigolds. Avoid onions and fennel.
Harvest
Ready in 50–55 days. Pick when pods are firm, 5–6 inches long, before seeds swell.
